About Me

Hi! I'm Joanne Jiang, a 13-year-old sailor and student from Shanghai, China. This month marks the beginning of an incredible new chapter in my life as I embark on my international student journey in New Zealand.

Born and raised in the vibrant city of Shanghai, I've always been drawn to the water and the thrill of sailing. As a youth athlete, I compete in both Optimist (OP) and Nacra 15 classes, constantly pushing myself to improve and reach new heights in the sport I love.

When I'm not on the water, you'll find me immersed in Japanese anime culture or jamming to my favorite K-pop groups. I believe that pursuing your passions - whether it's sailing across the harbor or discovering new anime series - is what makes life truly exciting.

My Sailing Journey

Optimist Class

The Optimist dinghy is where my sailing journey began. This single-handed boat has taught me the fundamentals of sailing, from reading the wind to perfecting my technique. Every race is a learning experience that builds my confidence on the water.

Nacra 15 Class

Stepping up to the Nacra 15 catamaran has been an exciting challenge. This high-performance boat demands precision, teamwork, and quick decision-making. The speed and agility of the Nacra 15 make every sail an adrenaline-filled adventure.

Competitions & Achievements

Competing in youth sailing events has been incredibly rewarding. Each regatta brings new challenges and opportunities to test my skills against other talented sailors. The competitive spirit drives me to constantly improve.

My story begins in the bustling metropolis of Shanghai, where I developed my love for the water and sailing.

Started Sailing

July 2019

Began my sailing journey with Optimist dinghies, learning the basics and falling in love with the sport.

Youth Athlete Career

2019-2025

Progressed to competitive sailing, racing in both OP and Nacra 15 classes at various regattas. Achieved and certified as National First Grade Athlete in 2023 - a proud milestone in my sailing career!

New Zealand Adventure
